Michael Goldberg, iCare co-founder

Michael Goldberg is the Co-Founder of I.CARE, a coral reef restoration non-profit based in Islamorada and the owner of Key Dives, also of Islamorada.  He is a CNN Hero for 2023 and a 2022 Scuba Diving Magazine Sea Hero winner.

 

Mike has been a professional diver for close to 35 years and resident here for over 20 years.  After the dramatic loss of our coral reefs in 2015 and 2016, instead of retreating, he co-founded I.CARE with Dr. Kylie Smith.  Together, by use of the best science, they decided to rebuild our coral reefs by using the vast recreational dive community.  In just 4 years I.CARE has educated over 4,000 divers and are now actively restoring sites from Islamorada to Key Largo.

 

Mike will be presenting on the bleaching event of 2023, past coral disease and how these devestating events give hope a clarity for our treasured reefs.
